The BC Falls Prevention Education Collaborative created a curriculum that was currently offered in workshop format across Canada. In order to maximize availability of the training, it was decided to create an online version of the workshop that would be provided as part of the Continuing Education program (distance learning) of selected universities across Canada.
Workshop materials, instructor guides, and interviews with instructors provided the key content for taking this highly participatory workshop and adapting it to a participatory online version. Storyboards and narration scripts were created incorporating imagery, discussion forum contents, videos, text, images and interactions. After approval the courses were built in Moodle incorporating rich-media Flash elements.
- Four-hour asynchronous course in fall prevention was created for health-care professionals working with senior citizens in a variety of care settings.
- Built in Flash and Moodle, the course utilizes interactive exercises, video examples of situations and case studies, and discussion forums for learners to share information and support. The course was produced in both French and English.
